Shashi Kapoor sahib made some terrific movies during the 60's.The 60's were the decade of light romantic movies and family dramas.Then towards the end of the decade action movies like Farz(1969),Aankhen(1968) and Shikaar(a mystery/action movie,1969) became huge hits and in a way signalled the arrival of action movies in Bollywood.Coming back to Shashi sahib, he made memorable movies like Waqt,Haseena Maan Jayegi,Kanyadaan,Pyar Ka Mausam etc during the 60's.Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati,probably not as big a hit as his other mentioned movies is a funfilled typical 60's Bollywood masala flick.
Deepali(Babita) comes to Bombay(now Mumbai) to participate in the Lakme Miss India contest.A conman/confidence trickster,Ajit(played by the one and only PremChopra) convinces her that she is going to win.But she doesn't even finish in the first 3.Dejected she decides to head back to Delhi to her uncle,played by Om prakash.But by the time she leaves,she falls in love with Ajit.Ajit already has a girlfriend Sherry(Helen) but when she tells him about her pregnancy he tries to kill her by pushing her down from a mountain.She survives and taken to the hospital by Pritam(Shashi Kapoor) and tow of his friends.
Meanwhile Deepali returns to Delhi.By sheer coincidence Pritam and his friend Ram(Rajendra Nath) are staying in the nextdoor house.A case of mistaken identity ensues as Deepali and her uncle are under the impression that he is a suitor for Deepali selected by her mom.But when the uncle meets Pritam he is impressed with him but Deepali doesn't really take note of him.Pritam begins to fall in love with Deepali but she tells him that she is in love with Ajit.But Pritam and Deepali's uncle find about Ajit's real intentions and concote a series of plans to reveal Ajit's true intentions in front of Deepali.They manage to do that half way through the movie.Deepali finally falls in love with Pritam.But just as they are about to get married another twist takes place in the movie which leads to cancellation of the marriage.I won't disclose the twisat because i have always been of the opinion that a review of a movie should not reveal the entire plot of the movie.That just saturates the interest of the reader.I mean if a reader decides to watch a certain movie after reading a review,it should not discuss the plot in detail.Otherwise the reader might not watch the movie.Yes the pros and cons of the movies can be discussed but not a detailed analysis of the plot.
I found this movie really entertaining.There is nothing new in the story as such but the execution of  the story has been done wonderfully well.The performances of the entire cast are good.Shashi Kapoor and Om Prakash really standout.Although the songs are not that great.They are alright,the sort of songs you don't remember for long.Give this one a try.

MERE SANAM

Mere Sanam is a hit 1965 movie.ll its songs became immensely popular.Asha Parekh at that time was Bollywood's top actress.
Neena(Parekh) is staying at a hillside hotel with his friends and mother,who is also their guardian for their trip.One day they run into Kumar(Biswajit).There meeting starts on the wrong foot.When they return to the hotel,they are annoyed to find Kumar there.(They don't know that he is the owner of the place.Infact Kumar doesn't know at first that his bungalow has been turned into a hotel by the caretaker,played here by Pran.The girls insist that Kumar leave the hotel immediately but the caretaker makes up a story about Kumar being mentally ill and under the impression that he is the owner of the place.
As was the norm in movies of that time,several misunderstandings and fights later,both Kumar and Neena fall in love.But the caretaker gets in the way by coming up with some incriminating picures of Kumar with another woman.Later he is framed for the murder of the same woman.But all misunderstandings are sorted out,the villianis caught and Kumar and Neena are reunited again.
The story of the movie is the typical romance plot of the time.I love all the songs of the movie.The performances by the entire cast are also terrific.Give it a try.You won't be disappointed.
